This Web site provides information about my computing interests and my related studies.  It includes reference to several static and dynamic Web-design projects, some of which provide functional code examples.  The projects have been developed using various programming languages and applications, including XHTML, CSS, Active Server Pages, Javascript, Java, Flash, SQL, C++, Access, Oracle 8i and SQL Server 2000.

The site is structured around the following areas:

Written work includes papers on the Data Protection Act 1998, the evolution of Intranets in organisations and employee motivational issues caused by technology "change in the workplace".

The above sections provide some evidence of work undertaken for my degree of BSc (Hons), Information Systems Design, completed in 2003 at UCLan.  Some of it is trivial - but some is more involved.

In 2004 I started my PhD research - to examine information integration in Web environments - using "Semantic Web" technologies such as RDF/XML, RDF Schema and OWL Web Ontology Language in the Semantic Web. The research page provides some background information about the development of a prototype semantics-based search tool. The key areas involved:

The Web site also provides information about my personal interests, e.g. my gallery of railway images and my blog called Webtrain Savvy.

This site is listed in the DMOZ Open Directory Project (ODP), the largest, most comprehensive human-edited directory of the Web;  From an ontological perspective, ODP represents a hierarchical classification or taxonomy.  Use the search-box, or the link, to explore the classification further.
